The FN Minimi was developed in Belgium, and was adopted by the US Army in 1982. Early versions were similar to those used by the British military, but in the 1990's a new version of the SAW was introduced, with a different handguard and a fixed plastic stock. The Mk46 mod 0 is a shortened version with a short barrel and collapsible stock, used by special forces.
