When thrown, the M84 produces an extremely bright flash, which causes temporary blindness for about 5 seconds to anyone viewing the explosion. The noise of the explosion also disturbs the fluid in the inner ear, causing diziness and loss of balance. Stun grenades are used in situations where hostages may be present, as distraction or incapactiation devices.
