The AK-47 is the most widely-distributed assault rifle in world history. It is estimated that at least 90 million AK-47s of all versions have been manufactured. The AK-47 is legendary for its ease of operation, ruggedness and ease of maintenance. This, coupled with the fact that they are easy to obtain and dirt cheap, makes the AK-47 the ideal for irregular forces, mercenaries, guerilla groups and terrorist organizations. Many third world armies also use the AK-47 and related weapons.

The AKMS is a version of the AKM with a folding stock. It was originally intended for use by airborne troops but is almost as common as the AKM with militia units. The performance is the same as the AKM, except for a slight decline in accuracy.
