Taliban

The Taliban were a group of radical Afghan Muslims headed by Mullah Muhammad Omar, a religious leader. The movement (soldiers all wore a distinctive white turban) grew as they fought against the opposing Northern Alliance, which they succeeded in driving to the extreme north of the country. Violently anti-western, they gave shelter to Osama Bin Laden''s Al-Qaida terrorist organization. This became their downfall, as the September 11 terrorist attacks brought down the wrath of the United States on terrorist and accomplice alike.
